Palin's Speech
Although I applaud her speaking style, her ability to balance family and professional life, etc. Sarah Palin has made more than a few missteps in her very short journey on the national political stage. Last night's speech was no exception. The Associated Press did a thorough fact-check of all of the claims Palin made throughout the speech...and the speech didn't fare well when scrutinized.

A couple of thoughts
1) Not all of these references were made by Pallin. I agree Huckabee's comments about her getting more votes than Biden were ridiculous, as were McCain's comments about her being "responsible" for Alaska's oil. But you can't hang that on her - she didn't say it.
Now, for the quotes attributed to her, I think they seem pretty accurate. She didn't say she opposed all earmarks, just those that were wasteful. The fact she has supported $27 million in earmarks in the past is fine as long as they were legitimate (and no one is saying they weren't). Secondly, the large total of earmarks requested is the doing of Senator Stevens, not Pallin. She has nothing to do with that, and I believe Stevens is getting his just rewards right now as he waits for trial for bribery.
For her comments about Obama's thin track record - it is thin! None of those pieces of legislation were controversial or significantly challenging to pass.
For her comments about taxes - Obama does plan to tax in the areas Pallin noted. The AP attempts to refute this by listing McCain's tax plans, something irrelevant to Pallin's comments.
In short, I am not sure where the AP thinks she "stretched the truth" - her comments seem to match the facts. I totally agree about Huckabee and McCain's oil comment, though
